Tame Impala – Loser

Tame Impala drops “Loser”, the second single from Kevin Parker’s upcoming fifth album “Deadbeat” due October 17 via Columbia Records. Unlike the club-heavy “End of Summer”, “Loser” returns to sunny indie pop territory with Parker’s signature analogue drum sound and hypnotic rhythms.

The track comes with a music video directed by Sam Kristofski starring Joe Keery (Stranger Things, Djo). Keery plays the dejected protagonist getting dumped, striking out at lottery tickets, and generally living up to the song’s title. In a clever twist, Parker briefly replaces Keery in the final moments, wearing identical clothes and muttering a defeated “fuck”.

“Deadbeat” was recorded in Fremantle and Parker’s Wave House studio in Western Australia during early 2025. The album draws heavily from bush doof culture and the Western Australia rave scene, recasting Tame Impala as “a future primitive rave act”. Lyrically, it channels “an endless bummer, a self-deprecating fuck-up stuck in a negative feedback loop”. Following 2020’s “The Slow Rush”, this marks Parker’s first album for Columbia Records.
